CLUE stands for Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange and ninety percent of all home insurers subscribe to CLUE. It is basically a database of homeowners insurance claim histories.
Your insurer will request a CLUE report to determine whether the buyer, you or the seller have filed any claims during the past five or so years. 27 "causes of loss' showing why a claim was submitted to property/casualty insurer for payment are tracked by CLUE. These "causes of loss' include:
- Workers compensation
- Wind
- Water damage
- Vandalism
- Theft/burglary
- Smoke
- Slip/fall
- Medical payment
- Lightning
- Liability
- Hail
- Freezing water
- Flood
- Fire
- Earthquake
- Dog bite
- Damage to property of others
- Contamination
You can get a free copy of your CLUE record in order to find out what your chances are of being denied. As a matter of fact, if you are denied insurance due to information contained in your CLUE report, you will get a free copy of it. In this report, you will be able to see your history of claims that you made.
If you think that there is something wrong with your CLUE report, or don't recognize a claim, you can always contact the necessary authority and find out why there was a claim on your CLUE report.
This CLUE report will affect your premiums and might or might not give you the chance to be insured. Order a copy of your CLUE report and find out what it is that you need to be aware of.
