How to File a Group Health Insurance Claim

Filing a group health insurance claim is not a complicated process if you know what you're doing. Follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step One

Read you insurance policy to learn what it covers.

Step Two

Talk to your insurance provider. They can explain to you about your coverage plan, if you don't understand it. Some terms can be confusing.

Step Three

See if you have a managed care plan. If you do, all you have to do is go to the medical facility. They will fill out all of the necessary paper work for you.

Step Four

Find out if you have an indemnity plan. In this case, you would have to fill out lengthy paper work.

Step Five

Fill out the necessary forms online. Most insurance companies are now on the web. There are many who have forms that can be accessed online. Find out what your health insurance provider's website is and if their forms are on the website. If not, get paper versions and complete them.

Step Six

Send paper forms you fill out in a timely manner. Most insurance companies have a time limit on when forms can be turned in, after the medical service is received.

Tips & Warnings

Contact your insurance company and ask all questions you may have. They know best how file for claims. Each insurance company is different, so there isn't just one way.

When you first apply for health insurance, find out as much information regarding your coverage and filing for claims as you can. You never know when you will have to file a claim, and you want to avoid confusion later on in the process.
